Four Ways to Add Healthful Ginger to Your Diet

Fresh ginger is a global culinary rock star. This rhizome is used to treat a variety of ailments. In China, ginger is used to treat colds and coughing. In India, ginger is used treat colds, headaches, and nausea. In the Philippines, ginger is used to treat a sore throat. And in the United States, ginger is used to prevent morning sickness. These are just a couple of ways different countries use ginger as remedies. So if you only use ginger for holiday treats, you may want to consider adding this popular home remedy to your shopping list.

 

Here are four ways for you to incorporate healthful and flavorful ginger into your diet.

 

1)    Ginger lemonade. Add freshly squeezed ginger and lemon juice to a glass of water. To get juice from ginger, grate ginger onto a cheese cloth and then squeeze the juice while the grated ginger is in the cloth.

2)    Ginger marinade for meat. Combine grated ginger, olive oil, fresh lemon juice, and additional fruit juices such as orange, mango, or pineapple.

3)    Ginger salad dressing. Combine grated ginger, olive oil, minced garlic, fresh lemon juice, and salt.

4)    Ginger tea. Add finely chopped fresh ginger to just-boiled water. Steep for 2 to 3 minutes. Strain tea and discard ginger. Good for stomach ache and fighting inflammation or pain.
